When Theo leaves for Vietnam, Cheryl never gets the chance to tell him she's pregnant. Suddenly faced with raising a daughter on her own, she must find the strength to build a life from uncertainty, heartache, and unexpected new beginnings.
The Strongest Thread: Stories That Stitched Us Together follows Cheryl's remarkable journey through love, loss, motherhood, and family. From a childhood spent moving across countries with her military family to building a home in Tennessee, finding love again, raising two children, and eventually settling in Arizona, her life is filled with unforgettable adventures, hilarious mishaps, and moments that test her resilience.
Woven together through laughter, grief, and generations of family stories, this heartfelt novel celebrates the ordinary moments that become extraordinary memories. It is a tribute to the women who hold families together, proving that even when life unravels, the strongest threads are the ones woven with love.
I have been listening to my grandmother’s stories for as long as I can remember. The memories she shared with me began when she was just five years old and continued throughout her life, carrying us through decades of love, loss, adventure, and family history. A few years ago, I began writing these stories down, not wanting the moments, lessons, and memories she carried to ever be forgotten.
The stories in this book span generations and include the lives of more than 50 family members. To create a story that readers could easily follow, I carefully combined and adapted these memories into a smaller cast of characters and a condensed timeline. While the characters, names, and timelines in this book do not perfectly reflect the exact order of events, every story, moment, and piece of history within these pages is true and deeply treasured by my family.
This book is a tribute to my grandmother, her memories, and the stories that connect us across generations. It is my hope that by sharing her journey, others will be inspired to preserve the stories of their own families before they become memories of the past.
